Hidden deep in gently rolling hills on the North Dordogne/Limousin borders with picturesque mediaeval market towns and excellent local cuisine, La Marchaderie is ideal for families who like walking, swimming, eating and drinking in unspoilt French countryside. It offers the authentic French experience - no pool, no telly, no en-suite bathrooms - just an original old farmhouse with Romanesque arch in the kitchen, two barns, wood-burning stoves, original oil paintings and rustic antique furniture.

All rooms are simply and comfortably furnished in keeping with the style of the house; paintings and interesting books abound.

A House Built on Rock

The house is a stone-built farmhouse, with chestnut floors and beamed ceilings. We have tried to retain its authenticity with antique furniture and decor in the local style. At the same time it is fully equipped and comfortable with a surprisingly spacious ground floor, interesting stone walls and a roman tiled roof and bread oven. In the grounds there are two large barns and a parking space for two cars.

Living Room

Steps lead down from the kitchen into the salon, with a magnificent open-beamed ceiling and a wood-burning stove for winter. Approximately 35'x35', with three wide French windows opening out onto the veranda and garden. A lovely cool room in summer, warm and cosy in winter. You will love dining outside on the terrace over-looking the garden with chilled chablis and fish on the barbecue.

Garden and Meadow

Children will love this extensive rambling garden surrounded by apple, pear and peach trees with a slope leading down to the water meadow and a rich variety of flora and wildlife including rare orchids and butterflies. We have heard singing toads, seen buzzards and barn owls, many varieties of frog, pine martins, deer and even, one evening, a wild boar cantering across a nearby field.

This is an ideal location for those who enjoy nature in unspoilt surroundings: this is 'la France profonde'. You can play badminton in the garden or boules on the terrace. Or you may prefer to read in the shade, play in the streams of the meadow, or sit on the veranda with a drink.
